Racing Tires - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
(Q) How can I get cheater tires made for a show that uses your tire?
(A) You can’t. Think about what you just asked me to do. You asked me to help you rob my customer.
(Q) What do those colored dots on the tires mean and why are the green ones the fastest?
(A) The colored dots identify the final finish inspector that inspected that tire. We used to use yellow paint stamps with numbers but the numbers were usually illegible. When we got back a tire that should have never shipped to begin with we often had trouble figuring out which of our inspectors needed (ahem) a tad more training. Now they each have a different color paint pen. And why are the green ones faster? That’s simple. It’s because you are superstitious. How fast that tire goes has absolutely nothing to do with who inspected it.
(Q) Is it true that the dirt track tires are natural rubber and the asphalt tires are synthetic rubber?
(A) No, it isn’t true. There are very few compounds that are either natural or synthetic rubber. These different elastomers give the compounds different characteristics. Dirt compounds may have more natural rubber than synthetic rubber but they generally have some synthetic rubber. Why worry about this anyway, just go race.
